Who we are

The Waaberi African Development Association (WADA) herewith referred to as ‘the organization’ is non-political organization, non-profit organization, non-religious organization, non-governmental, and non-partisan working for the wellbeing of the poor communities in Somalia.

The organization was formed in 2007 by professionals from the Northern Eastern Province of Somalia and registered in USA, Kenya, and Somalia with an objective of enhancing development and improving livelihood among the pastoralists Communities in Somalia and the entire Horn of Africa. The specific areas of operations are Northern Eastern region of Somalia, namely Sool, Sanaag region and Buhodle district of Togdheer region, as well as Kismayo Jubbland state in Southern of Somalia and other parts of Somalia.

The organization key themes of operations are, Water, sanitation and hygiene, human rights and gender, education, Youth engagement, Peace Building as well as inter-faith work, livelihood and health with focus on Gender Based Violence.

Organization enjoys tremendous community support in the project areas and has successfully undertaken diverse projects in Kismayo distinct of Jubaland as well as Buhodle district of Somalia and Sool region. The organization has also successfully undertaken programmes in Eastleigh area of Nairobi where the Somali community from the majority of its residents.

Our approach

Our Mission
The organization focuses on empowering the less privileged and the vulnerable in order to enhance, strengthen and accelerate rapid development of rural resource through community development, capacity building, training and coaching of youths, economic diversification, provision of education, health, improvement of food security initiatives, environmental conservation and restoration of peace and harmony among pastoral communities.

OBJECTIVES

  • To participate and support in community development programs through mobilizing of local communities and people with close work relation with local authorities and foreign partners
  • To train the communities with PICD, PIM, and LLM methodologies with reducing of poverty, dependence, vulnerability, low level of education, low level of food/cash income, and famine
  • To establish and promote all basic needs by establishing working climate, better shelter, safe water, food, education, health, sanitation and creation of vocational skill opportunities
  • To create and provide equal opportunities for rural and urban communities in areas of resource management, social development initiatives and infrastructures.
Our Vision
WADA is committed to develop community dialoguing process and mobilize to improve the livelihood mechanism and eradication of poverty. Enabling community with their own plans/projects which is on continual long course.

VISIO STRATEGY

Organization has access to work and integrate local community more extensively into the basic design as grassroots level, an approach that supports collective action, empowerment and demand driven local service delivery intended to improve their economic and social wellbeing. Organization has strategy objectives that to evolve, mature and efforts will turn to maintain an institutional training centre and partnership ability to scale up for community’s priorities with other local and external agencies.
